Butterfly field
Butterfly fields is part of a group exhibit of 12 x 12″ squares done for a group in Las Vegas called Art Quilts Etc. The only requirement besides the size, was that each person was given two colors that must be included in their piece. I was inspired to create this from left over pieces of fabric in my stash and some butterflies I had printed on fabric from a previous piece called Monarch Migration. I had the butterflies which fulfilled my color requirements of orange and red-orange. I knew that I wanted to used the other secondary colors of green and purple and came across a fat quarter I had cut up for a previous project and a piece of blue fabric that made me think of sky I finally could “see” what I wanted to create. I painted on the batik to create the leaves in the foreground and fused and stitched to create a background of leaf shapes.
