Chinatown Gateway Plaza Mural was a 1% for Art project Competition funded by the City and County of Honolulu. The mural is called “Faces of Chinatown” and represents the variety of people that pass through Chinatown daily.
The entire mural, (elevator lobby not shown), contains 24 figures, the tallest being 11′. The mural figures are constructed of ®Sentra board and MDO coated plywood painted with acrylics. The furniture and large mirror were already installed before the mural was designed so the figures were adapted to accommodate these elements. Additional areas of wrap around and curved mirror were installed in order to integrate the existing mirror into the wall design.
